Microdermabrasion in modern cosmetology is understood to mean highly effective exfoliation or exfoliation of the skin in the area of the epidermis, based on hardware micro-polishing of the skin with tiny particles of abrasive nature.
From a therapeutic point of view, these microscopic abrasives penetrate deep into the epidermis, destroy the bonds of the epidermal scales and help to remove the dead cell layer located above the healthy cells. During mechanical exfoliation, the process of formation of growth of new skin cells, fibers is stimulated, blood circulation is improved, thanks to which wrinkles are effectively smoothed, the skin is cleared, its relief becomes smoother, all structures of the epidermis and derma return to normal.
Varieties and indications for the procedure
Based on the types of abrasive particles used for the procedure, microdermabrasion can be crystalline and diamond. In the crystalline form, aluminum dioxide crystals are used as abrasives.
They are sent under pressure into the upper skin layers, and then sucked back under vacuum. With them, they thus pull the horny scales of the epidermis.
With diamond microdermabrasion, the skin is polished with a device with a tip, which is completely treated with diamond dust. The device itself works with the use of a vacuum, with the help of which it becomes possible for it to draw in horny particles. This principle of operation minimizes the risk of developing allergies and dust settling on mucous membranes.
When conducting a diamond microdermabrasion, there are practically no complications, since only the upper layers of the epidermis are processed with diamonds. Aluminum oxide crystals act deeper and more aggressively, which is why diamond microdermabrasion is used predominantly in modern clinics and beauty salons.
Cosmetic diamond microdermabrasion should be carried out in case of problems with such skin areas, which are located on the face, neck, hands, in the decollete.
Diamond microdermabrasion will not help to get rid of keloid scar, for example, or stretch marks after childbirth, but a course of such therapy will significantly reduce the manifestations of these problems and smooth out the appearance of defects.
The procedure of diamond microdermabrasion is usually carried out in 3 main stages. Before the immediate procedure itself, the patient does not need to prepare in any special way, which greatly simplifies the process. At the first stage, the skin is cleaned at the site of application of the device. They cleanse the skin with antiseptics, specially designed for the treatment of lotions that soften the stratum corneum and optimize the exfoliation of dead particles.
The main indications for the procedure of microdermabrasion are:
- presence of mimic wrinkles;
- hyperkeratosis, lack of healthy skin tone and other signs characteristic of photoaging processes;
- the presence of enlarged pores;
- the occurrence of shallow pigmentation;
- traces of post-acne, oily skin;
- the presence of scarring and scars on the skin;
- preventive measures aimed at delaying the aging of the skin.
At the second stage, microdermabrasion itself is performed, that is, the skin is polished with special diamond apparatus nozzles with various levels of abrasive particles. The roughness of the abrasives is selected by the beautician on an individual basis. At the third stage, the exfoliated skin is moistened and saturated with special creams.
The procedure of diamond microdermabrasion is painless, in its course the patient can wait only minor tingling in the area of application of abrasives.
The duration of the procedure can be judged based on the area of skin where it is carried out. On average, microdermabrasion takes a doctor from 25 to 30 minutes.
The course of diamond microdermabrasion procedures is determined on a case-by-case basis and depends on the result that specialists want to achieve with the method, as well as on the patient’s initial skin condition. Most often you should spend at least 4-12 sessions, the interval between them should be at least 1 week.
The effectiveness of microdermabrasion is obvious already after the first procedure, but it also has a cumulative effect and each time positive changes will become more and more obvious. After the course of procedures, the result will be stably preserved from 8 to 12 months. After this period, the courses are recommended to be repeated. In addition, often with an interval of 1.5-2 months, specialists conduct supporting procedures for micro-polishing of the skin.
Rehabilitation, benefits and contraindications
The procedure does not have a rehabilitation period, it needs to be replaced with weekly specific treatment, which should be applied immediately after microdermabrasion. During the first day you can not be on the street without sunscreen. It is also not recommended to be painted, as decorative cosmetics contain chemicals (similarly with solar radiation), causing the emergence of various kinds of allergies and hyperpigmentation.
Following the procedure for three days can not go to the sauna and the gym, because the active production of sweat slows the exfoliation process and rehabilitation procedures. Face creams containing retinol (vitamin A) are also contraindicated, as it enhances the exfoliation of the skin.
The main advantages of diamond microdermabrasion include painlessness, the lack of need for anesthetics, the absence of adverse events and the rehabilitation period. Thanks to all these factors, diamond microdermabrasion can be safely called a nursing procedure that can be performed on weekends in order to look completely healthy by the beginning of the working week.
Contraindications for microdermabrasion is not very much - it is pregnancy, the presence of wounds and abrasions on the skin, skin inflammation, acne, herpes, obvious vascular manifestations, keloid scars and a tendency to their appearance.
Combination with other treatments
Diamond microdermabrasion should not be compared with chemical peels. These procedures should be applied in specific cases, and they are not always able to replace each other. With the help of microdermabrasion, hyperpigmentation, for example, or deep wrinkles is not treated.
The procedure affects the skin cells superficially, but this is its main plus. More global, often surgical techniques are also used to solve global skin problems.
Also, diamond microdermabrasion is perfectly compatible with some other treatment procedures, for example, with injection skin rejuvenation - biorevitalization, redermalization, contour plastics, micro-polishing, preparing the skin for laser effects - nanoperforation, as well as with Botox injections.
